Michael Borenstein, PhD ’85, ’73

Dr. Michael Borenstein earned his BS in pharmacy and PhD in medicinal chemistry from TUSP and built a distinguished career in teaching, research, and leadership spanning 48 years at the school.

Dr. Borenstein was appointed assistant professor in 1990, promoted to associate professor in 1996 and subsequently held progressively senior administrative positions including department chair, associate dean, senior associate dean for operations, and interim dean on two separate occasions.

As senior associate dean for operations, Dr. Borenstein held broad, institution-wide responsibilities, ranging from oversight of TUSP’s admissions processes to the implementation of technology initiatives across the School. He also directed TUSP’s continuing professional education programs. In addition, he provided quality assurance oversight for TUSP’s cGMP facility in collaboration with Dr. David Lebo.

Dr. Borenstein was recognized for his teaching excellence as TUSP’s AACP Teacher of the Year and a recipient of the Golden Apple Award. He served as an Advisory Board member for Kensington Health Sciences Academy, a Philadelphia high school focused on preparing students for entry-level employment in health-related fields. His scholarly contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications and a patent. He served as principal or co-investigator on multiple industry-funded and NIH grants.
