125 Heroes: Fred Weissberger

Fred Weissberger in a pharmacy

Answering a notice posted at school during his junior year, Fred Weissberger took a position as a student pharmacist at Reese Pharmacy in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia, a decision that launched a career spanning more than 42 years. He advanced from staff pharmacist to partner and ultimately sole owner. He credits Temple University, as both a student and an alumnus, with instilling his knowledge of pharmacy, clinical practice, business, teamwork, and compassionate patient care.

A devoted leader in the profession, he is a former board member of the Montgomery County Pharmacy Association, served for many years as its delegate to the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, and is a member of APhA. Fred remains an active board member of the Temple University School of Pharmacy Alumni Association, where he organized the alumni dinner meetings for many years and served in numerous other roles. He is also the longest-serving member of the Patient Safety Committee at Temple Chestnut Hill Hospital, where he represents community pharmacy. His honors include Preceptor of the Year from the Temple University School of Pharmacy (2000) and the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Community Service Award (2004) for promoting pharmacy in the community.
