Amelia Zammarelli was a graduate of the Class of 1959, at a time when women only made up a very small number of the class. Upon graduation she accepted a position at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1960, upon the birth of her first child (four more children would quickly follow), Amelia chose to stay at home to raise her children. Ten years later, Amelia reentered the profession, first working for an independent pharmacy, then at Rite Aid for 15 years, after which she returned to work at an independent pharmacy until in her 70s.
Amelia had very fond memories of her time at the School of Pharmacy and made lifelong friendships. Amelia’s daughters, Lyn Batastini (1983) and Lisa Batastini (1984) are also graduates of the School of Pharmacy. In the early 2000s, Amelia endowed The Frank and Rachael Zammarelli Annual Lecture Series in memory of her parents and as a “thank you” to the School of Pharmacy.
