Dr. Magid Abou-Gharbia currently serves as a Laura H. Carnell Professor in the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He was the founding director of the Moulder Center for Drug Discovery Research and also served as the associate dean for research, since he joined TUSP in 2008.

He has made numerous contributions throughout the years, prior to and after joining Temple University, to advancing the school’s educational, research, and entrepreneurial missions. Before joining TUSP he served on the TUSP Board of Visitors for several years. He initiated and sponsored five scholarships for PharmD students and initiated and sponsored an annual Wyeth-TUSP lectureship series.

After joining TUSP in 2008, he established at TUSP a unique and fully integrated Center for Drug Discovery Research which was subsequently named The Moulder Center for Drug Discovery, along with shepherding the Drug Discovery Initiative (DDI) proposal which was approved and supported by the Board of Trustees. In 2009 he established the Magid Abou-Gharbia Valedictorian Award to recognize the PharmD graduate with the highest cumulative GPA throughout their academic years.

Dr. Abou-Gharbia is a dedicated teacher and a mentor for PharmD students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting scholars as well as an accomplished researcher. He is an author or co-author on over 144 peer-reviewed publications and inventor of 141 US patents and over 350 patents worldwide.
