Paul J. Hiller Obituary

HANOVER TWP. — Paul J. Hiller, 64, of Hanover Township, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

He was born in Nanticoke, a son of the late Charles J. and Rose M. Yanchak Hiller. Paul was a graduate of Greater Nanticoke Area High School, class of 1968, and attended King's College. In 1973, he graduated from Temple University School of Pharmacy and began a career as a pharmacist, beginning with Rea and Derick.

He spent most of his career at Mercy Hospital, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre and most recently with Commonwealth Health, where he was director of pharmacy at the Nanticoke Special Care Facility, retiring early this year. He was past president of Luzerne County Pharmaceutical Association and a member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists.

While at Temple, he became a member of the Beta Omega chapter of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. He remained active in the fraternity for life and was a founding member of its Pocono graduate chapter and ultimatately rose to the fraternity's highest national office, grand regent.

He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish and volunteered there at the Nanticoke Area Food Bank after his retirement. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed Notre Dame football, the Boston Red Sox, Celtics basketball and, of course, Temple activities.

Paul is presently survived by a brother, Dennis and his wife, Patty, Jackson, New Hampshire; cousins, Laverne Victor and Bernadine Supkowski, Nanticoke; nieces, Kate Muxie and Alli Hiller; nephews, Bryon and Matthew Hiller; great-nephews and great-nieces.

The family sends a special thank you to family and friends, especially Dr. Gerry Maloney and George Wascavage.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, with the Rev. James Nash officiating. Interment will be in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Glen Lyon. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for calling hours from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to Nanticoke Area Food Bank, c/o St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, PA 18634.
