Temple University School of Pharmacy will welcome Lucinda L. Maine, PhD, FAPhA, FFIP, CEO Emerita of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), as the featured speaker for the 2026 Bender Lecture on October 7, 2026.

Maine will present “Lessons in Leadership from our Foremothers” from 12 to 1 p.m. in Room 230 at the School of Pharmacy. The event is open to all.

A longtime leader in pharmacy, Maine has spent more than five decades advancing the profession through education, association leadership, and advocacy. She began her pharmacy career as a student at Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy before earning her PhD through the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy’s Kellogg Pharmaceutical Clinical Scientist Fellowship program, where she studied drug use in older adults, health policy and public health.

Maine later joined the American Pharmacists Association, where she worked in policy, government affairs, communications and professional programs. In 2002, she became executive vice president and CEO of AACP, a position she held for 20 years before transitioning to CEO Emerita. She was also a founding member of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative, helping advance team-based education for future health professionals.

Her contributions to pharmacy and health professions education have earned numerous honors, including the Remington Honor Medal, the highest honor awarded by the pharmacy profession, as well as the Gloria Neymeyer Francke Mentor Leadership Award and honorary degrees from Western University of Health Sciences and Ohio Northern University. In 2025, Maine was elected chair of the Board of the U.S. Pharmacopeia Convention.

Established in 2020 through a bequest from the estate of Rosine and Maurice Bender ’44, the Bender Lecture honors Rosine’s mother, Anna Teller, a pharmacist who owned a pharmacy in Philadelphia. The lecture series highlights transformational stories of women in pharmacy.
