On Monday, January 12, 2026, harm reduction specialists from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health were on campus to provide opioid reversal training for current PY2 and PY3 students. The training included both discussion and hands-on experience intended to strengthen students’ confidence in delivering community-based naloxone education and outreach and preparing them to administer life-saving care in a real-life setting.

This voluntary event was part of the Naloxone Access and Medication Education (NAME) program, which aims to support training in opioid harm reduction strategies. Dr. Marissa Cavaretta, Clinical Associate Professor, and Dr. Tina Tran, Assistant Professor, serve as organizers for the program. 

Funding for NAME was awarded to Drs. Cavaretta and Tran through a scholarship from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation in 2025.

Students who attended the voluntary training will continue their learning experience by participating in an opioid harm reduction community outreach event later in the semester.
