Vania Liang, PharmD '24
2024 United States Public Health Service "Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award" Recipient
"I was selected for this award because, when serving as president of the Pharmacists in Public Health Student Organization, I was committed to helping fellow students recognize the importance of educating patients on their health. We held community events in places that people in the community would frequent such as churches, their local community pharmacies, and out front of the pharmacy school.
I plan to continue my public health work as an ambulatory care pharmacist after my residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center and as an organizer of wellness events throughout my community, teaching patients about the importance of immunizations, blood pressure monitoring, medication adherence, and many other things that pharmacists can support.
I believe that, as pharmacists, we are the most accessible health care professionals that patients can turn to. They don’t need to make an appointment to see us and, by holding wellness events, we can make ourselves known to the whole community."
