Dr. Whitman Named Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs
Craig Whitman, PharmD, FCCM, BCPS, BCCCP has been named Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs effective February 1, 2022. Dr. Whitman will continue as a Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice and maintain his practice and experiential site in the Medical/Respiratory Intensive Care Unit at Temple University Hospital. He previously served as Associate Chair of Pharmacy Practice Since May 2021, Interim Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice from September 1, 2020 - April 30, 2021, and President of the School of Pharmacy's Collegial Assembly from July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020.
In this newly created role reporting to Dean Panyam, Dr. Whitman will oversee the curriculum and provide vision and leadership for the Doctor of Pharmacy program, oversee the Office of Experiential Education, ensure Temple is a leader in pharmacy education, and represent and serve as an advocate for the school's professional mission with internal and external stakeholders.
Dr. Whitman joined the School of Pharmacy in 2014 from Barnes Jewish Hospital where he worked as a Clinical Pharmacist in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Prior to joining Barnes, he was an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at University of the Sciences where he also developed and served as Director of the PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program.
The Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs role has been created in lieu of filling the Senior Associate Dean of Professional Programs role previously held by Dr. Ina Calligaro. Dr. Calligaro's former responsibilities will be shared by Dr. Whitman in his new role and by Dr. Lawrence Carey in his expanded role as Assistant Dean of Accreditation.
